Indications have emerged that two key benefactors of APC National leader, Bola Tinubu are working with northern governors to strip the party leader of his tight control of party structure.
It was gathered that Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State and Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state are leading the pack of South West governor plotting Tinubu’s fall.
The governors are working to ensure that Tinubu’s preferred candidates lose the APC National convention. Though the are the arrow heads, other governors in the zone are fully in their support.
The majority of the 16 governors on the platform of the opposition party have been reportedly pushing for enhanced relevance in the party by controlling events as it obtains in the ruling party.
Governors who defected from the ruling party to the opposition party reportedly gave life to the idea, with the two governors, reportedly disgruntled with the political leadership in the South West, said to have taken it upon themselves to lead the charge of wresting the control of the party from the former governor of Lagos State and national leader of the party.
Tinubu has been the nerve of the historic merger that solidified the base of the opposition as a national phenomenon.
The current schemings in the party had reportedly thrown up other strong contenders for the presidential ticket, with the Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwanso, jumping ahead of others due to the reported backing from the party’s governors’ forum which was reportedly pushing for one of their own as the party’s candidate.
The quest for the presidential ticket has seen camps coming up to fight for the membership of the next national leadership of the party, which is seen as crucial to where the pendulum would swing during the contest for the presidential ticket.
A major grouse was said to be a move to zone a particular office to the North West, to edge out the current occupant.
The said officer is perceived as important to the party.
Those currently in the race were said to include former Edo State governor, Chief Odigie Oyegun; former Bayelsa State governor, Timiprye Sylva; former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi and former PDP Vice National Chairman and Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s right-hand man, Dr Sam Jaja.
Apart from the two governors in the South West zone, two other governors from the other parts of the South and North zones were allegedly leading the gang-up against the Buhari and Tinubu ticket.
