The Transition Monitoring Group has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Nigerian Police Force for a successful conduct of the Ekiti State governorship election.
The Chairman of the group, Mr Ibrahim Zikirullahi, said acknowledged the election as credible and free of violence.
“Ekiti State was really an acid test for INEC and I think it would have been very disastrous if they failed in Ekiti State, given what happened in Anambra State because people were gradually losing hope and confidence as far as the election in Nigeria is concerned”, he said.
The election monitoring group also attributed the successful conduct of the election to good logistics support from the electoral body and the professional conduct of security operatives.
“I think they worked seriously to ensure that this time around they are not found wanting. The securities themselves also knew that the eyes of the world were on them and they couldn’t have done something silly that would impair the integrity of the election. The people of Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole would hold the Government responsible”, he said.
Mr Zikirullahi also commended the citizens for their commitment: “Of course I think the Ekiti people, the will they showed that they really know what they want and that they want to score a point was the determining factor.”
