Rivers Civil Servants Salaries’ Diverted For APC Functions, Political Ambition –PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State Chapter, expresses deep concerns over the plights of civil servant whose salaries have been deliberately denied them following the apparent paucity and misappropriation of funds in the State.

The PDP condemns this ugly development which is a clear indication of the unruliness and insensitivity of the Rivers State Government under Governor Amaechi, wondering why innocent civil servants and the development needs of the State will be made to suffer the brunt of Governor Amaechi’s action in pursuing his political ambition.

The Party takes exception to the continued diversion of huge funds belonging to the State in sponsoring the activities of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State and at the national level and for the maintenance of a private jet by the Governor and his co-travelers, noting that the current situation where the government is unable to pay civil servants salaries was avoidable and most unfortunate.

PDP emphasizes that had the Governor heeded the advice and warnings by well meaning Rivers people and the Party, all would have been well with the State and the people, including government workers who would have been saved the pains and anguish created by Amaech’s bad governance in the State.

The Party also believes that the latest directive by the Governor for the stoppage of Judiciary staff salaries in the State is because the State is broke but the government only feigns to have done so in protest of the NJC’s position on the appointment of a State Chief Judge.

While calling on the people of the State, particularly the civil servants not to be discouraged or intimidated by the actions of the Governor, the PDP nonetheless sympathizes with the families of all affected public servants and by extension the entire citizenry whose rights and sources of subsistence have been breached.

The PDP unequivocally urges the Rivers State Government to without further delay commence the payment of salaries to all affected civil servants and the Judiciary staff, who ought not to suffer for the wrong and irrational actions of the Governor and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
