PDP woos Bankole to contest 2015 gov election

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun East Senatorial District, on Tuesday, wooed the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, to contest the 2015 governorship election in the state.

Members of the party, at stakeholders meeting, held in Ijebu-Ode, maintained that only an experienced citizen of the state in the political field could salvage it from alleged misrule under the present administration.

Speaking at the meeting, which was well attended by former Minister of State for Agriculture, Alhaji Najeem Awodele, Chief Jide Awosedo, Senator Lekan Mustapha, Honourable Wale Ogunbanjo, serving members of the state House of Assembly, Honourables Abiodun  Akovoyon and  Job Akintan, former member of the Assembly, Honourable  Johnson Olu-Fatoki, former local government chairman, Alhaji Abeeb Ajayi, among many other party leaders and members, Honourable Dave Salako, stated that Bankole was fit to contest for the seat in 2015.

Salako said effort was ongoing to ensure the party regained its pride of place in the political landscape of the state, adding that the party would come out victorious in the elections.

Also speaking, Senator Mustapha assured the party faithful that all aggrieved members of the party within the next two months would return to the fold. He urged party members to sink their differences in the interest of the party.

In his response, Bankole contended that only a united, strong and formidable party would wrest with other opposition parties in the state and thereby enjoined members to present a united front.

He added that he was not interested in leading a factionalised party, assuring them of uniting  all groups within the party within the shortest period of time.

“The reason for this meeting is for the PDP  to continue this very successful unification of all our groups. For that I am grateful to everyone here.

“I keep saying that me,  Dimeji Saburi Ayinde Bankole is  not interested in the PDP that has different factions. No! My responsibility to all of you, to the party that gave me the position of speakership, is to do whatever you can to unite the members of this party. I am more grateful to you elders, all men and women, for your efforts at reconciling all members of the party,” Bankole said.
