The planned defection of Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, from the Labour Party (LP) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has earned the commendation of stakeholders in the state.
The stakeholders have described the planned action as the best political move the governor could make at this time.
Mimiko had met with different interest groups in the state to intimate them of the PDP’s request that he should join the ruling party at the centre.
The groups Mimiko met with include members of the House of Assembly, traditional rulers, religious leaders, captains of industries, workers union and artisans, among others.
Sources privy to proceedings at the meetings informed that the stakeholders have pledged their total support for the governor if he decides to honour the PDP’s invitation, adding that the move, if made by Mimiko, would be most appropriate at this time in the interest of the state.
The stakeholders at the different consultative meetings organised to review the overtures made to him by the PDP praised him for the decision to consult widely before taking a decision.
Sources close to the meetings held with the interest groups said “they told Governor Mimiko in clear language that moving to the national ruling party will better position of the state and benefit it immensely as a part of national government.
“They described the move, if eventually made, as people oriented and of immense value to the generality of the state,” sources were quoted as saying.
According to them, they are sure that the decision would be in the collective interest of all.
