•Give one week ultimatum for payment of salaries of disengaged teachers
The Bauchi State chapters of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have given the Bauchi State goverment one week ultimatum to pay outstanding salaries of disengaged teachers in the state.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Executive Chairman of Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board and signed by the state Chairman of NLC, Hashimu Mohammed Gital; and TUC Chairman, Mohammed Usman.
According to the letter, “We advise that the following issues be resolved for the progress of education and development of our dear state that is the payment of the outstanding salariesof NTI NCE, DLS disengaged teachers and payment of January 2013 salary of all primary school teachers in Bauchi.
“As partners in progress in the conversation of Bauchi State, we made effort to make our feelings known about the process of the disengagement and re-engagement of the NTI DLS Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) graduates working in the Basic Education sector of the state and non-payment of salaries of primary school teachers for the month of January 2013. “For over a year now, no effort is being made in addressing the concern brought forward for your consideration. Are we therefore, by your comportment construe that you have no intention of addressing and finding lasting solution to the issue raised?
“For the sake of emphasis and clarity, we still want to stress that there was no valid disengagement on ground since the process was marred with various degrees of irregularities and insincerity of purpose.
“The organized labour is not happy with your stance and therefore wishes to advise that you take up your responsibility or the unions will be compelled to take further necessary action in getting the wronged members redressed, if by the expiration of one week the demands are not met”, it said.
