It was a peace signing meeting turned violent as thugs loyal to Governor Bello stopped the Gubernatorial candidate of SDP, Natasha Akpoti from entering the venue of the peace signing parley. It took policemen on guard duty to fire a couple of teargas cans to disperse the contending groups, at the door. The effect of the teargas spread into the event’s hall, affecting all occupants, including the IGP, who was seen covering his nose.
Meanwhile, hitherto candidates of opposition political parties have raised the alarm over what they described as continued intimidation and oppression of their chieftains and members.
Governorship candidate of the PDP, Engr. Musa Wada, while speaking at the event demanded that the Inspector-General of Police to intervene in the plight of the opposition in Kogi state, saying their members are afraid for their lives.
“The Inspector General of Police can know see first hand, our incessant complaints over the intimidation and free movement of thugs in Kogi state, all at intimidating opposition leaders and their supporters. We are not safe and the Governor should be cautioned for a peaceful election.”
“It is an insult gone too far from thugs, that dignitaries had to run for their dear lives in an event having the IGP and INEC chairman in attendance.”
