The Femi Babalola for Governor Campaign Organisation has described as false; report circulated on the social media that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant, Mr Femi Babalola, also known as Jogor, has stepped down for former governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala.
In the report, the writer had claimed that Babalola had on Wednesday, announced in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, that he had stepped down for Alao-Akala, ahead of the Oyo State PDP primaries, holding next month.
A statement issued by the organisation, signed and made available to Nigerian Tribune by the media aide to the aspirant, Mr Tosin Omojola read: “Our attention has been drawn to a post on social media by some rumour mongers, peddling wrong information that Mr Femi Babalola announced in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday that he has stepped down from the race, for Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala.
“This is to inform the general public that there is no iota of truth in the claims, as Babalola, a leading aspirant for the PDP ticket, ahead of the 2015 gubernatorial election in Oyo State, is committed to the course and has and will never step down for anybody for any reason whatsoever. He is qualified to lead the state.
“Stepping down now will amount to an act of betrayal to the people of the state, who are in full support of Babalola’s aspiration to hoist the flag of our great party, the PDP, in the governorship election, come 2015 and eventually get the people’s nod to govern our dear Oyo State,” the organisation said.
