DR. LLOYD UKWU ADVOCATES FOR AN ORGANIZED AND STRONG ECONOMIC BASE IN EKPEYE LAND

 The Director General of the Institute for Strategic and Development Studies, Dr. Barr. Lloyd F. Ukwu has called on Ekpeye to build a strong economic base.
He made this call on Saturday in Ahoada while addressing the First Ekpeye Economic Summit Of by the Institute for Strategic and Development Studies with the Theme “A People at a Crossroads: Developing a Sustainable Economic Base.”
While speaking, he called on the people to decongest the already over crowded political institutions and focus on building the Ekpeye economy.
As part of his recommendations, he said the Ekpeye people need a committee to come up with framework for economic development in the area. He called for the creation an Idea Center, where certain business ideas and proposals will be evaluated, appealing to illustrious Ekpeye sons and daughters to invest in Ekpeye land.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Occasion Rt. Hon. Ehie Ogerenye Edison who was represented by Deacon Dr. Reddy Otuwarikpo, expressed dissatisfaction over the low turn out and advised the people to take the summit seriously.
The newly elected Deputy Speaker of the Rivers 9th Assembly also frowned at the youths on their attitude toward entrepreneurial development, describing it as discouraging.
While lending his voice, the Royal Father of the Occasion, Eze Dr. Felix Enene Otuwarikpo said for Ekpeye to grow, their must be a reform in the traditional institution, stressing that human capital development in Ekpeye is very minimal.
He called on the Ekpeye people to spread prosperity and advised them to invest at home, saying the land is safe for investment. He further called on youths to embrace peace.

“The Challenges, Dilema and the Imperatives of Economic Development in Ekpeye Land.” He identified in-action, ignorance and over dependence on politics as the major challenges that hamper the economic development in Ekpeye land  while he advocated for sustainability and succession as a remediation measures.
In another paper presentation, High Prince Chuks Austine Omeyi (Ph.D)
MD/CEO – Custodian Energy & Logistics Ltd.
MD/CEO – A & S Oil and Gas, spoke on
“Brand and Values: A Panacea for Building Economic Base.” He emphasized on the need for the Ekpeye people to positively brand and add values to themselves.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lovegod Ideozu Imokiri
IDE-AFRICA Commodities Trading Nig. Ltd. talked on the Role and Impact of E-Commerce on Social, Economic Development.
The high point of the occasion was the constitution of a five man Add-hoc committee headed by Deacon Dr. Reddy Isaac Otuwarikpo to drive the action.
