CHAIRMANSHIP candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, Mr. Francis Onakpofure, has promised to run an inclusive and accountable government if elected in the October 25 council polls in the state.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Ughelli, Onakpofure reiterated his determination to drive a well planned economy for the people, adding that the construction of link roads and street lightning would be the focus of his administration.
He noted that he was moved to join the chairmanship race because of the poor living standard of the people of the council, emphasizing that previous administrations in the council had failed the people.
Onakpofure who lamented that leaders no longer accounted to the people because of the way they are handpicked and imposed on those they are meant to serve, said, “This situation is unacceptable because the council is the closest government to the people. You see, the servants have become leaders forgetting the ladder through which they climbed.
“The plight of the people means nothing to them any longer. Some see their privileged positions as avenue for self enrichment. They run a government without vision and mission. They operate a system that leaves no hope for the common man. Salaries are hardly paid and grassroots empowerment only exists in illusiveness. The reason is not farfetched. It is because the people never make impute in the system that brought them in. We must stand to correct this for once.”
