APGA gives conditions for supporting Jonathan in 2015

The All Progressives Grand Alliance says it will not support President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition except the Peoples Democratic Party agrees to leave all elective positions in the South-East for APGA.

The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the party, Mr. Campbell Umehnzekwe, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, said this on Monday while reacting to the defection of six APGA lawmakers to the PDP.

He said the lawmakers that defected have no electoral value and advised Jonathan against toying with APGA if he wanted to win next year’s election.

The party chairman said APGA has not yet declared support for Jonathan and maintained that politics was a game of “give and take.”

He said it would be ridiculous for APGA to support Jonathan in 2015 without getting anything in return.

He said, “We fought the PDP in Anambra and Imo and we won. That is to show that APGA is a strong party. We have always been presenting presidential candidates but we did not do so in 2011 because our leader Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was ill. So we have not endorsed anybody for 2015.

“What we are telling Jonathan is this: We are going to negotiate the South-East with him and all PDP aspirants in the South-East from governorship aspirants to aspiring senators, House of Assembly and House of Representatives aspirants should step down for APGA candidates. That is the only way we can support him for President, it is give and take.
