An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a school proprietor, Tunde Ibitoye, in custody for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.
The Police Prosecutor , Mr Samuel Onwuchekwe, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 10 at Fayemi New Market, Agric-Olope Road , Ado-Ekiti .
He alleged that the accused on the said date had carnal knowledge of the minor.
Onwuchekwe said that the offence contravened Sections 218 of the Criminal Code Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti
The plea of the accused was not taken, while his Counsel, Mr Emmanuel Adedeji , prayed the court to grant bail to the accused on liberal terms.
The prosecutor, however, opposed the bail application of the defence counsel, saying that the duplicate case file would be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Chief Magistrate Richard Adegoke ordered that the accused should be remanded in police custody.
He said that the duplicate case file should be sent to the office of the DPP for legal advice and adjourned the case to June 26 for further hearing
