Policeman kills colleague in Benue

The killing of a police officer by his colleague has sent panic waves across Asa 111 community in Otukpo local government of Benue state.

The policeman had accidentally killed his colleague whilst on official assignment to arrest youths who beat up elders in the area during their meeting.

The police officer whose name was not given had gone to the area to arrest some youths who were said to have to manhandled elders while they were holding a meeting.

Spokesman of the Benue State Police Command DSp Daniel Ezeala who confirmed the incident said it happened on the 19th June, 2013, adding that a report was lodged at the Otukpo Police station and the Police acted promptly by embarking on arrest mission in the area.

Ezeala further intimated that one of the youth alleged to have masterminded the incident was arrested by the police, an action which prompted his colleagues to engage the police in a gun duel and in the process, the police officer accidentally shot his colleague.

The Police PPRO debunked rumors that the incident is connected to the recent dispute by a section of youths in the area who objected to the piece of land given to the Senate President, David Mark to build a university.
