Nigerian leaders to meet at NIPPS on insecurity

Top Nigerian leaders and former Presidents will converge deliberate on the security challenges on Tuesday at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the Eminent Persons and Expert Group Meeting on Complex Insurgencies in Nigeria, Dr. Shola Adeyanju has said.

Adeyanju explained that the opening ceremony is coming up today between 4pm and 7pm at NIPSS while tomorrow will be a technical session and Thursday will be a kind of issuance of communiqué of what they have arrived at and adopted at the meeting. He said that during the technical sessions, participants will look at different dimensions into the crises like political dimension, economic dimension, psychological dimension, sociological dimension.

He said the idea is that when this is done thoroughly, they will be able to come out with a communiqué and secondly Kuru Declaration while the third one will be called “Counter-Insurgency National Strategy.” “The hope is that when people from all parts of the country are here and they are well represented, it will be an opportunity for us to harness everybody’s ideas. When people are talking together, we want to see what will come out of this and on the basis of that, there will be a declaration. This will be the contribution of NIPSS in observance of its mandate in talking about national policies.”

Adeyanju said they are expecting at least 10 governors, ministers, former Heads of State, adding that the offices of the President and Vice President have been fully briefed about the arrangements. All these, according to him, are geared towards making sure that peace reigns in the country. He added that there would also be a special session on the Plateau crises.

Nigerian Defence Academy, military officers, para-military officers etc will be in attendance while Ambassador Dapo Fafowora, while Dr. Bello Fadile will be presenting a paper on Odua People’s Congress (OPC) while somebody will present paper on MASSOB and Boko Haram.
