Dr Suleiman Dikko has been appointed the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC by President Goodluck Jonathan.
For over one year, the UBEC has not had a substantive Executive Secretary. This followed the expiration of the tenure of the former Executive Secretary, Dr. Ahmed Modibbo, from Adamawa State.
After the expiration of Modibbo’s tenure, Prof. Charles Onocha acted for one as the acting executive secretary of UBEC. Onocha was a deputy executive secretary and his tenure also expired last weekend.
Dr Dikko is believed to have worked towards transforming basic education in Katsina State. He is also a close associate of Governor Shehu Shema.
Modibbo was said to have lost out in his quest to get a second term after his wife, a member of the House of Representatives, Hajia Binani played prominent role in the new PDP uprising in the house. Modibbo was also said to be too close to the Adamawa State Governor who is fraternizing with the APC.
The new Executive Secretary of UBEC is said to be very conversant with the workings of the sector, having made impact in Katsina state.
