National Secretary, Arewa Nationalist Movement, ANM Iorember Aker has lambasted Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN 2011 governorship candidate in Kwara State Mohammed Belgore over his comments opposing the renaming of Kwara State University, KWSU after late elder statesman Olusola Saraki.
Aker who made the condemnation yesterday in Makurdi while speaking with newsmen, regretted that an educated person like Belgore who should enlighten the society, is rather trying to take advantage of his position to mislead people of the State and nation.
He noted that the late Olusola Saraki left an indelible mark in the politics of not only Kwara State but the nation, maintaaining that prominent departed politicians in his like have had institutions named after them.
“We can attest to the fact that federal or state institutions have been named after elder statesmen who were partisan politicians during (and even after) their lifetime”. Leaders like Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Alvan Ikoku have institutions named after them.
According the ANM scribe, the late Saraki deserves more than having an institution named after him judging from his position in the society and the sacrifices he made during his lifetime.
Aker described Belgore’s comments as “a demonstration of his total ignorance to historical facts or perhaps a deliberate attempt to turn a blind eye to the legacies of a founding father like Olusola Saraki”
He eulogized the late Saraki as a selfless elder statesman, who gave scholarship to thousands of students across the nation, adding that he never allowed his personal and party interest to override the interest of the people
