Makurdi is now a town controlled by thugs backed by the state government. No business opens without a thug levy of N300k, you don’t go about at night with valuables because you may not be going back home with them, you don’t have any issues with any of their Bosses because your life will be at stake… Etc The younger ones on the streets of Makurdi are begining to look up to these thugs as role models, and that is why most of them become cultists in preparation to move up-close and personal with those that matters in the business of extortion and murder. There are several questions to this ugly reality. We must ask ourselves if this is the Benue of our dream and why the government is doing nothing about it. Those in power should not forget that power change hands and one day, they too will become on-lookers and by extension victims of the monster they are creating.
