In order to escape the biting hardship that has crippled his life over the last three months, a resident of Abuja, Fred Onuigbo burnt himself to death in Gwarimpa village in Abuja.
The Late Onuigbo was said to have complained bitterly over the last few weeks over the economic hardship has crippled his finances and led to his children thrown out of school.
He had seven children and a wife. He lived in a room apartment and had recently lost his source of livelihood, a taxi. His wife, Mrs Onuigbo said that her late husband also owed a bank.
It was gathered from eye-witnesses that the late Onuigbo on the ill-fated day went to the back of a filling station in Gwarimpa, where he set himself ablaze. While he burnt in a hole, neighbours noticed the fire and rushed to the scene, only for Onuigbo to creep out of the hole, sat down and died.
He was aged 50 and his mother’s corpse was still in the mortuary awaiting burial.
