The chairman House Committee on Environment Hon. Uche Ekwunife has tasked the Ecological Fund Office (EFO) on the need to improve on the engagement of competent contractors and consultants.
While leading a delegation to the EFO, she disclosed that the committee during its oversight functions to various sites discovered that many projects were handled by incompetent contractors and that there were also instances of faulty designs by consultants.
Mrs. Ekwunife also called for urgent engagement of a competent contractor of Julius berger pedigree to handle the Nanka-Oko landslide project in order to permanently address this serious ecological problem that had destroyed many houses.
She noted that the fact that a former vice-president Alex Ekwueme hailed from Oko should ginger the immediate resolution of the problem.
She, however, commended EFO for the recent changes introduced by the office in areas of improved data bank, regular monitoring of projects and fast tracking of payment processes in order to fulfill the purposes for which such projects were sited.
