A lawmaker at the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Kenneth Iyo is in trouble for allegedly collecting N1.6million as estacode for a trip to South Africa, but failing to make the trip.
Iyo who represents Gwer West State Constituency has been accused by a Benue based anti-corruption group, ‘Concerned Benue Citizens Coalition” of defrauding the people of the state by refusing to attend a scheduled workshop in South Africa.
Addressing newsmen yesterday in Makurdi, leader of the group Mr. Philip Agbese said the trip was sponsored by the State government and viewed Hon. Iyo’s action as ‘criminally intended’, ‘wicked’ and a calculated attempt to subject the tax payers to unnecessary hardship which should not be allowed in our society.
He likened the act to those committed by Sen. Iyabo, Hon. Hermen Hembe and urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to as a matter of urgent national concern arrest, prosecute and the bring activities of Hon. Iyo to book.
The petition was equally copied to the Benue State Commissioner of Police urging him to arrest the culprit so as forestall any plot by him running into hiding before the full wrath of the law catches up with him and his co-conspirators.
Hon. Iyo could not be reached for his reaction as his cellphone was permanently switched off.
