*Fulani herdsmen: Al Makura’s claims are Diversionary – Benue state government
The Benue state government in North central Nigeria has reacted to Nasarawa state governor,Alhaji Tanko Almakura’s claims in a recent world press conference in Lafia that Nigerian soldiers killed ‘innocent civilians’ in Keana local government area of the state.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Makurdi, the Hon. Commissioner for information and orientation,Hon Justin Amase said that the Governor’s claim was “diversionary and far from the truth. When there were killing the Tiv people both in Nasarawa and Benue state the governor was quiet about it…he never made any statement either condemning the insurgents’ attacks nor took any step at curtailing the crisis, why would he make noise now to create unnecessary anxiety over the matter when he was said to have provided accommodation, food and even weapons to the insurgents to kill the Tiv people”.
The Hon commissioner maintained that the growing political unity between the Tiv people and Mada people of Nasarawa state was a serious threat to the governor’s 2015 political ambition hence his support to Fulani militants to kill and displace the Tiv people.”Some Fulani insurgents captured by security operatives confessed severally that there were being sponsored by Nasarawa state government to displace the Tiv people both in Nasarawa and Benue states”.
The commissioner commended the efforts of both the federal and Benue state government in the deployment on military personnel to the crisis zones,a development he said has calmed down the situation.
Hon Amase called on the people of Benue state to continue to be law abiding and go about their normal activities as the state and federal government were making frantic efforts at putting to an end the crisis.
