The Nigeria Aviation Professionals Association (NAPA) has justified the purchase of two bullet proof vehicles for the aviation minister, Princess Stella Oduah by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on security ground.
“Considering the security challenges in the country, the purchase of the bullet-proof cars is justifiable”, said the body in a statement signed by Comrade Abdulrazak Saidu. General Secretary, NAPA.
Saidu urged President Goodluck Jonathan to ignore calls to remove Oduah because “it has been proved that the cars, ab initio were neither bought in the name of the Honourable Minister, nor were they meant for her private use, rather, they were bought for the use of the industry as a whole.”
He said Oduah inherited a moribund aviation sector that had suffered neglect and degradation for 3 decades and was able to cancel many dubious concessions.
He listed other achievements by Oduah to include the fight against high air fares charged by foreign airlines among others.
“She generally brought sanity to the sector. We are totally in support of the aviation minister and we are happy to be associated with her lofty achievements in the aviation sector.”
Saidu said the reforms of the minister in the sector might not have gone down well with some individuals who are asking for her sack over the bullet proof vehicles.
