Rivers Task Force initiates process for the  Recovery of Two Government Estates

The Rivers State Task Force on Recovery of Government Properties on Saturday effectively  established Government presence in two Housing Estates owned by the State Government  in Port Harcourt.
The Task Force issued a 7-Day Quit Notice to the illegal occupants of the two estates. The two estates: Government Estate at Orouje,  Benin/Sangana street and Government Estate at Khana Street,  D/Line.
Chairman of the Task Force on Recovery of Government Properties,  Mr Rufus Godwins who led the operation emphasised that the State Government is committed to ensuring that illegal occupants are ejected from Government Quarters
He said: “We are establishing government presence effectively here today.  We are erecting a  signboard showing that this is a Rivers State Government property.
“We heard that some people are even claiming to be the owners of this place and they are selling already.  Please if you have paid money to anybody for the purpose of buying this place,  go and recover your money .
“Otherwise , it is a dubious deal.  Your money is lost . This place belongs to the Rivers State Government and we are going to put the sign post this morning to show everyone that this property belongs to the government. “
He noted that after seven days the Task Force will return to recover the affected properties.
He said:  “Within the next 7 days,  we will be back here to recover these properties from all of those that do not have papers or have paid to some wrong persons or who forcefully occupied the place. Government does not build property for anybody to just come and stay.
“There is a proper means of allocation. Go and bring your papers to our office. You can start doing that today . By Saturday ,if you don’t have papers start moving out on your own.   That is why we are here and I believe the message is clear.”
The Head of Service added: “We are here on behalf of the Rivers State Task Force on the Recovery of Rivers State Properties, this is one of such properties built by the Rivers State Government.
“Never again will it be that government will build quarters,  either for serving civil servants or estate for buyers and then persons who do not have  occupation will be the ones occupying.”
Permanent Secretary,  Ministry of Housing, Joseph Amiofori  said that the Task Force is in possession of the list of those with genuine allocations.
Secretary of the Task Force on Recovery of Government Properties , Chief Hanny Woko and members of the Task conducted the recovery operation.
