Police smash baby factory in Rivers State

A couple, Mr. and Mrs. Chigozie John have been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for alleged involvement in human trafficking, in Eleme Local Government Area of the State.

The Scan News gathered that the suspects, Chigozie and Akwaramars (wife) John, were arrested by the police on June 30, 2012, at about 9pm at their residence in Akpajo, Eleme, where three pregnant women suspected to have been held captives were also rescued.

Further investigation revealed that, during the police interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, stating that, they keep the women to deliver their babies in their house, after which they sell the new born babies to their undisclosed prospective buyers.

The Police Image Maker, Ben Ugwuegbulam, who confirmed the incident, said that the couple admitted that the three pregnant women found in their house were procured to deliver babies that would be sold as soon as they were born.

Ugwuegbulam, continued that they succeeded in arresting the suspects based on credible intelligence of the command through the prompt alert they got from the public, saying that the couple have been in the business for a long time.

Meanwhile, the police have commenced investigation towards arresting other culprits in the business and they would soon be charged to court.
