Police ready for Ogun Polls

Ogun State police command has declared that members of the police are battle ready for council election coming up on Saturday.

The command also warned electoral offenders to steer clear of the state ahead of the election assuring that his men were ready to ensure an itch-free election by Saturday.

Also, the State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) disclosed that the electoral body was ready for Saturday election, adding that total number 646 candidates would be contesting.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, OGSIEC Commissioner 3, Barr. Mutiu Agboke disclosed that 77 candidates would be contesting for chairmanship seat while 569 would be contesting for the councillorship position, adding adequate logistic would be deployed to all the polling units in the 20 council areas.

However, Commissioner for Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye revealed that his men has been fully trained on their duties in the election.
He assured that the police is fully prepared for the election adding that adequate security will be on ground for the elections.
He disclosed that “The police is fully prepared, we are not unaware and I have fully addressed the issue. Security is on ground, adequate security is guaranteed and we are ready for the elections.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps {NSCDC}, Ogun State command has disclosed that the command will deploy 1,300 officers and men for the conduct of the coming LG elections in the state.

In a statement issued by the command, 1,300 are to be deployed alongside personnel of other security agencies in the state.

“Prior to the election, surveillance men of the command have been deployed to strategic areas across the state to monitor the situation and gather useful information for proactive purposes. This is to prevent violence before, during and after the  election.

“The command has warned the youths conduct themselves within this period.” the command said.
