Magu: FG making mockery of its anti-corruption war – Ezekwesili

A former Minister of Education and Co-Convener of the Bring Back Our Girls Group, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has described the controversy surrounding the confirmation of a substantive Chairman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as a national disgrace.

In tweets, a few hours after the Senate refused to confirm the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, as the substantive head of the anti-graft agency for the second time, Ezekwesili said the Federal Government was making a mockery of the anti-corruption war, which was the foundation of its campaign.

Between Presidency of @MBuhari & the @NGRSenate of @bukolasaraki whatever game is being played with @officialEFCC is a NATIONAL DISGRACE.

The Senate had said its rejection of Magu for the second time was based on the damning report by the Department of State Services.

The EFCC had rejected him in December after the DSS declared him unfit for the role.

Upon his re-nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari, the DSS insisted on its report, notifying the Senate in a fresh letter that it had made its position on Magu’s screening known in its first report.

Ezekwesili, however, wondered why the President re-nominated Magu despite being privy to the report of the DSS and called on the Presidency to provide an explanation for the action to Nigerians.

Presidency should explain to Citizens why Prez @MBuhari who is privy to DSS report on Magu of @officialEFCC renominated him to @NGRSenate .

She also accused the Buhari administration of putting the credibility of the anti-corruption war in doubt.

Ezekwesili, however, urged citizens to demand an effective anti-corruption war, warning that ignoring the need of such a war against anti-corruption would be to the detriment of the country.
