A Court in Port Harcourt on Monday re-instated the suspended chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State, Mr Timothy Nsirim and his councillors, describing his suspension by Governor Chibuike Amaechi and the Rivers State House of Assembly as unconstitutional and illegal.
Nsirim is an associate of Supervising Minister of Education, Barr Wike. He was unilaterally suspended by Governor Amaechi at the height of the crisis.
The judgment of the court delivered by Justice Adanma Iyayi-Laminaka stated that the suspension of the chairman on the allegation of illegal spending was completely wrong as he was never given fair hearing.
Also re-instated were the vice chairman and other councillors suspended by Governor Amaechi alongside the chairman.
The court also restrained the Rivers State Governor and the State House of Assembly from interfering in the running of the local council.
The court further ordered the re-opening of the sealed secretariat of the council.
The re-instated council chairman, Mr Timothy Nsirim addressed his supporters in from of the Obio/Akpor LGA Secretariat which has remained locked for months.
He urged he supporters to remain calm, saying that he would involve security agencies in his resumption of duties to avoid conflict.
