Former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, has expressed regrets over his support for Rotimi Amaechi as governor of the state in 2007 election. Amaechi was an aide of Odili while serving as deputy governor and through his (Odili’s) effort, Amaechi was elected as member and speaker of the House of Assembly. Amaechi served for eight years as the House Speaker.
Speaking on Sunday in Adoni at a campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike, Odili accused Amaechi of working against the interest of the PDP in the state. He gave assurance that PDP would ensure that the party reclaim the state from Amaechi and his All Progressives Congress (APC). Odili said in 2015 they would correct the mistakes they made in 2015. Odili said: “As you know, until a man has power and money, you don’t really know him. One thing is clear, we have accepted our mistake, and we are determined to correct it. “We thought we did the right thing by supporting Amaechi to become governor of the state. We also left a united party; there was no other party in the state other than the PDP.”
