Non-Academic staff begin 3-day warning strike in UI

The University of Ibadan Chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union, University of Ibadan branch on Monday embarked on a three-day protests to demand the N30 billion earn allowance and thr alleged refusal of the Federal Government’s refusal to obey court judgment on staff school salaries.
Commencing the  protest attended by members of the two unions, the protesters disrupted vehicular movement having occupied the main gate leading to the University campus chanting various solidarity songs.
Armed with placards having inscriptions such as  “we demand N30 billion to pay part of our earned allowance now”; FG stop provoking inter union crises in Nigerian universities”; FG, please obey court judgment on staff school,” among others.
Speaking at the Commencement of the protest. the Chairman, UI, SSANU, Wale Akinremi, with  other union leaders, lamented that a nation that treats teachers the way “we treat ours in Nigeria will never be destined for greatness.”
The SSANIP Chairman hinted that the  3-day protests is to be followed by a branch protest and the ‘mother of all protests’ at the national level which would shake the corridors if power to its foundation.
