Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Rt Hon Victor Ihunwo on Friday urged the managers of the National Identification Card Registration at the council Secretariat to make efforts to increase the pace of their job.
Following complaint of the snail space at which the registration of applicants for the National Identification Card is going and the growing number of applicants on daily basis, the Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Honourable Ihunwo Victor Nyeche JP Friday stopped by at the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)’s office in Port Harcourt to enquire from the managers of the exercise actions being taken for the applicants to get themselves registered without breaking a sweat.
He said it was unfortunate that most of the applicants get to the registration centre in the wee hours of the day and spend all day without being registered.
The Mayor advised the managers of the exercise to ensure that the applicants are registered based on “A first come first serve basis”, and asked them to shun every act of favouritism so as to allow the process to run smoothly, while the body makes effort to get more computers to hasten the registration exercise.
He enquired from the applicants if they were being asked to pay money or grease palms for them to get themselves registered or be taken inside the registration office for express registration at the expense of others who came before them….. all the applicants chorused: “NO”
