The visit of Senator Hope Uzodinma and other committee members to Taraba State was organized by the PDP National chairman and not the Senate, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has declared.
In a statement signed by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, said that Senator Uzodinma was on the PDP assignment
According to the Senate, it had become necessary for it to make the clarification because the action of the party was being construed as that of the Upper House of the federal legislature.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Uzodinma and his committee are on a mission to the state at the instance of the PDP and not the Senate. As a member of the party’s board of trustees, the national chairman mandated him alongside other committee members chosen by the party to find solution to the Taraba State political crisis that was occasioned by the unfortunate health challenge of Governor Danbaba Suntai.”
“It is therefore erroneous to misinterpret the committee as a Senate committee set up to intervene in the Taraba crisis. It is not the Senate,” Enyinnaya said.
In a related development, a group of Southern Kaduna youths has accused Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo of fuelling the crisis in Taraba.
The youths under the umbrella body of Southern Kaduna Youths Liberation, in a statement made available to journalists in Kaduna, said: “It is very disturbing that Alhaji Garba Umar, the deputy governor, now spends more time in Abuja with the vice president than in Taraba State.”
In a reaction, spokesman of the Vice President, Umar Sani, said “of what benefit will that bring to the vice president.”
Umar further asked that “on what basis are they accusing the vice president and what is their interest in the matter. Why is the allegation not from Taraba and of what benefit will such action bec to the vice president.”
