PDP Wins Kaduna Assembly Bye Election

Nigeria’s ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has won the House of Assembly Bye election for Kauru/Chawai state constituency held on Saturday.

Announcing the election results on Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr. Timothy Chindo of PDP as winner of the election, having polled 36,152 votes to defeat his opponent, Dr. Isaac Auta Zakai of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who got 16,451 votes.

The bye election followed the death of the former member, Shaibu Tukura, who died on March 21, 2014.

The victory of the PDP candidate has further consolidated its strong hold on the State Assembly which had been working harmoniously with Governor Yero in actualizing all projects and programmers of the present administration.

Their victory has been seen as a litmus test to the forthcoming 2015 general elections in the state which has been governed by the PDP since the return of democracy in 1999.
