The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Ekiti State, Mr Kole Ajayi, has called on leaders and elders of the state to protect the dignity of Ekiti the state by supporting his ambition.
Ajayi made this call in a letter entitled; “A Case For A Real Ekiti Government,” a copy of which was made available to Sunday Tribune on Saturday.
The scientist-turned lawyer admonished all Ekiti elders to rise up and take the state’s destiny out of the clutches of foreign godfathers who he said dictated when it came to choosing who their governor would be.
The Accord candidate reminded the elders of the import of the independence Kiriji war fought by their forefathers in the 18th century to free Ekiti people from the overlordship of foreigners.
Ajayi noted that since democracy started again in 1999, Ekiti could not boast of choosing its own helmsman, saying that the first executive governor, Chief Niyi Adebayo, was anointed in faraway Ijebu in the late Pa Abraham Adesanya’s compound, while former Governor Ayo Fayose got the anointing of Olusegun Obasanjo, the then president, who is an Egba man.
