ASABA – Former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori has pleaded with all Urhobo sons and daughters who are eminently qualified to be governor of the state to wait till 2023 when it will get to their turn again.
He stated this on Friday in Owa Oyibo, Ika North East Local Government Area during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Campaign rally, stating that it is still the turn of the Anioma of Delta North extraction.
The party leader said Urhobo should understand equity, fairplay and show understanding to be patient for the next four years just as he assured without ruling out the fact that it would get to the turn of both the Ijaws and Isokos.
On the PDP members who contested primaries but did not succeed, he pleaded with them to close ranks and work for the victory of the party at all levels.
While telling them not to be carried away by risen passion and tension, he urged them to learn from the misfortune of Governor lfeanyi Okowa who would have been governor since but eventually won in 2015.
While advising them that God gives power to whoever He wants, he told them to continue to work for the party as they have lots to benefit from Governor Okowa who he described as patient, persevering and dependable.
Chief Ibori, who thanked the leaders of the party for doing a good job of sensitizing, mobilising and selling the manifestoes of the party since the Campaign started in Oghara and especially transversing all the Local Governments, assured of victory.
According to him, the Campaign Team may decide not to come to the LG to campaign knowing full they would win convincingly but has to show gratitude with the fact that Anioma supported him fully when he was to be governor and has to be part of the last rally.
“We are here to make statement. It is very simple. Governor Okowa has done well. I am proud of him. One of the leaders of the party told me when he was Commissioner for Water Resources. He provided borehole in all the LGAs. So if long time ago he could spread patronage, that means he understands the state.
“There is nothing God has started that He will not finish. Our God will not fail lka and Anioma people. Once we gather again here, in God’s name it would be for the swearing in of Governor Okowa. Anioma people should not worry it is their turn,” lbori assured.
Earlier in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, Governor Okowa, while assessing the progress made during the campaign tours observed that the people of the state have shown commitment to give 100 per cent votes to the PDP.
“I am proud to say I am from Delta North Senatorial District; from what we saw during the visits to the LGAs, there is no compromise about giving 100 per cent votes to the PDP,” Okowa said.
“The people were surprised that we could take the campaigns to their homes, to their Wards and I want to thank the wonderful members of the campaign council who are respected leaders in their own right and their commitment to the campaign should be commended,” Okowa said.
