A former Governor of Sokoto State and one of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential aspirants, Attahiru Bafarawa, has Thursday, in Abuja, said the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki, cannot resign his position, citing that the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, was the Speaker of the House of Representatives when he defected from the then ruling PDP to the opposition APC, yet, he did not resign his speakership.
He said this in a parley with some newsmen as part of his campaign strategy to win the PDP presidential ticket for 2019 elections.
The former governor said his agenda if he emerged Nigeria’s president is to implement the party’s manifesto and the Nigerian Constitution.
Bafarawa said, “It would be unfair for Saraki to resign his Senate President’s position. Tambuwal did not resign as the speaker when he left the PDP for APC.
He asked, “So, why should Saraki resign for defecting from the APC to PDP? No one harassed Tambuwal. Why should Saraki be harassed now?”
According to him, he felt insulted as a founding leader of the APC who served as the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee of the party; that the party could ask him to hand over the leadership of the party in Sokoto to a former Governor, Aliyu Wamakko.
