The attention of the Oro Nation Caucus of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to malicious online publications and misleading headlines in some local tabloids on the meeting we had with our dear son Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, who, by the grace of God is the Secretary to the State Government.
At the meeting held in Uyo on Thursday 14th June, 2018 the Secretary to the State Government assured the Stakeholders that the Government of His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel is committed to the realization of the Ibom Deep Sea Port and Industrial City, specifically mentioning that construction is expected to commence later in 2018 after the conclusion of the bidding process.
He urged us as his kinsmen to sustain our support for the Governor, citing the policy of political inclusion, his appointment as an Oro son, as the Secretary to the State Government, current repair work on the Uyo-Oron Road (Old alignment) as well as the dualization of the new alignment of the Oron-Uyo Road, remodeling of Iquita and Amamong General Hospitals as well as recommencement of work on the long awaited Etebi-Enwang Road.
We are also appreciative of His Excellency’s immense support towards the on-going renovation of the prestigious Oro Civic Centre and coronation of the Grand Patriarch of Oro Nation, His Royal Majesty, Ahta Edet Okon Isemin, the Ahta Oro VII.
The Secretary to the State Government said Deacon Udom Emmanuel means well for Oro in particular and Akwa Ibom State in general and that the Governor has within three years actually visited Oro more than any past Governors, to inaugurate one project or the other, in addition to social visits.
The SSG had never at any point in his speech, made any comparison between the Administration of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel and the previous Administrations as alleged in the said publication.
We stand by these comments, as they are the irrevocable position of Oro and all well-meaning people of Akwa Ibom State.
Furthermore, in agreement with our son, the stakeholders unanimously moved a motion to organize a rally to formally endorse Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term come 2019.
While we encourage use of the social media for obvious gains, we however call for restraint among citizens, publishers and reporters to focus more on things that unite the state in their reportage rather than embark on media propaganda to fan ember of disunity, blackmail and hate speech.
