The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated some Household equipment to Ahoada West LGA in Rivers State in South South Nigeria.
Presenting the materials to the Flood victims with a direct distribution method in various camps located in Ahoada West LGA in Rivers State, Mr. Yakubu Suleiman the coordinator, in charge of NEMA EOC Team E (Rivers/Bayelsa Territory) said, the intervention became necessary when the agency has seen the efforts made by Local Government Executive Chairman Hon. Evang. Hope Ikiriko for the River Flooding Victims with a view to cushioning the effects.
He continued, we have watched videos of the devastating flooding situation and your efforts so far, we said, If a Local Government Chairman has done this to the Flood Victims. then, what are we waiting for” Hence our coming.
The NEMA boss, who regreted the unfortunate development in the zone, stressed that a visit to the various camps revealed that much assistance was required, as a palliative to cushion the effects in the LGA.
He also expressed hopes that the materials and the equipment would be judiciously used especially as the direct distribution was adopted by both NEMA and the Local Government.
Receiving the materials for onward presentation to the Victims in IDPs Camps, the Executive Chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hope Ikiriko appreciated their effort, saying “it will go a long way in complementing the relentless efforts of the Local Government Council ”.

7. 100 pcs of Plastic Plates
8. 100 pcs of Plastic Spoons.
9. 100 pcs of Plastic Cups.
The Chairman disclosed that since the commencement of the River Flooding, about a month ago, the Local Government Council has done a lot in coping with the growing needs of the Internally Displaced Persons and calls on other well-meaning donor agencies and spirited individuals to contribute to the noble course.
“I want to commend NEMA for this great gesture which will go a long way in complementing the efforts of the Local Government for its prompt response to the shelter needs of the IDPs and those that have experienced several cases of attacks since the commencement of the devastating River Flooding,” he stressed.
Be be put on the know that, Ahoada West LGA has 71 communities, all have been affected with various degree of damages, available records showed that, the number of Internally Displaced Persons has approximately increased from 120,000 to 195,000. Furthermore, as at 2006 census, Ahoada West local Lovernment Area of Rivers State population was 249,232 while 350,200 population is the current estimation of Ahoada West LGA.
It is therefore pertinent that, the Local Government Council is in serious need for help and partnership from State Governnent, Federal Government, Faith Base Organisation and spirited individuals as the only sure way to come out of the devastating situation.
