Wherever you find a true Igbo man, one evident attribute he possesses is his love for his brothers and relatives. Others are his generosity, and his wont remains to carry people around him along in any progressive venture. Showing his people the road to success is among his traits. A true Igbo man is also hardworking, enterprising and result oriented. The ingenuity of an archetypal Igbo man sees him overcome the most daring of barriers to be at the front guard whenever achievement, success and accomplishment are on the front burner.
In Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Samdaddy) is a man whose way of life is evident of a proud and worthy Igbo son. Friends of the lawmaker and erstwhile Local Government Chairman have attested to his spirit of “Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya”. Testimonies also abound of how the front line Imo governorship aspirant shares his fortunes with persons who work with him, thereby ensuring that they always felt comfortable. He has been saluted in various quarters for his unselfish life style, the hallmark of a good leader.
Samdaddy’s Igboness has no limitations nor boundaries. At the national assembly, he is the number one among lawmakers from the South East extraction championing the Igbo course. One of his most celebrated contributions is his sponsoring of the Bill for an Act to Establish South East Development Commission which has passed second reading on the floor of the red chamber. The bill which is geared towards developing the Igbo nation is a testimony of Samdaddy’s passion to see that the marginalization of the Igbos in the scheme of things in Nigeria is reduced to the barest minimum. Samdaddy is also pushing for the upgrade of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, to University status. And like the other bill, it has also passed second reading.
When Samdaddy stands to speak, his Igboness becomes glaring. The wisdom in his speech and his dress code tells the story. His white caftan and red cap in which he attends plenary and other functions is a symbolism of truth, purity, justice and the Igbo man in him.
Furthermore, no well bred Igbo man plays with his ‘Chi’ (his God). Hence, wherever he goes, Samdaddy professes the power of God and he always believed that “Chi Ya Amanda” (his God will never fail him).
When Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo met in Awka recently to chart a way forward, it was no surprise that Samdaddy’s name reverberated and stood tall. He is obviously different from other South East Senators. The Imo son is at the Senate representing not only his senatorial zone, Imo East, but the entire Igbo land, and he has proven overtime a worthy ambassador of the most prosperous and widely traveled tribe in Nigeria. Back home (Owerri Zone) he has attracted several developmental projects to further prove his credentials as a conscientious, dogged and result oriented politician.
