No fewer than two aged women have been confirmed killed and 30 houses razed on Friday night in Dakum and Jol villages in Riyom Local Government council of Plateau State. A source close to the incident said the gunmen struck the two villages on Friday night and started setting houses on fire.
The Majority Leader in the Plateau State House of Assembly and Member Representing Riyom Constituency Hon. Daniel Dem who confirmed the incident “decried the recent killings of the two persons and the burning of over 30 houses.”
Dem further said he was sad with the turn of events in his locality, describing the situation as bad, adding that the villagers had to flee the entire community for their safety.
According to him “we are tired of this kind of events. As I am talking to you now, arrangement is being made to mobilise the Mobile Police to the area to beef up security together with the Special Task Force (STF) operatives. Sincerely, I want the security agencies to be up and doing to ensure that permanent peace is restored to the area.”
He called on National and State Emergency Management Agencies to visit the affected villages and supply relief materials as over dozens of people have been displaced and their homes burnt.
He maintained that “we don’t know what we are going to do now, the entire village with over 1000 population has been displaced, their homes have been burnt down completely by the suspected Fulani. We really need the attention of the Federal Government.”
Dem Said those who have been displaced are currently taking refuge in Hoss Primary School and some fled to Barkin-Ladi Local Government Council.
Contacted for comments, the STF Spokesman, Captain Salisu Ibrahim Mustapha, said one person was killed and the other one injured in the area.
