PARIS, JULY 11, 2018: (DGW) Reports reaching our Paris newsroom say unknown gunmen have unleashed fury on Tabbani village in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing 45 people and a district head after which the village was set ablaze.
The fleeing villagers, reports say, were sporadically shot at, our source including the son of the slain district head, Aliyu Ibrahim, confirmed the attack.
“The bandits first set the whole village on fire and then started shooting people fleeing from the fire.
“The village is now deserted. The lucky ones who survived the attack are now seeking refuge at Gandi town,” Iro Aminu, a local who survived the attack disclosed.
The spokesman for the Sokoto Police Command, Cordelia Nwawe, confirmed the attack but said the command could not ascertain the casualty figure at the moment.
“The situation is now under control. The command will issue statement and give full details tomorrow,” she added.
