The Nigeria Labour congress, NLC says it has credible information that the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has mobilised thugs to disrupt workers peaceful protest billed for thursday
In a statement signed by Nlc president Ayuba Wabba on wednesday says the Commissioner of Police , Kaduna State Command does not have the powers to ban a peaceful protest as being rumoured, saying it would run against the grain of fair-play and proper policing if the Commissioner will be selective in which protests he allows because the Governor himself had organised two protests in support of his policies in the state.
The statement draw the attention of the relevant authorities and the generality of Nigerians to the grave dangers these portend, as Peaceful protest is a form of expression validated and legitimised by the nation’s constitution, international labour organisation’s Conventions and and Labour Laws and no executive Governor, should be let to abridge these legitimacy
The NLC reminded the Governor that labour unions from across the country are fully mobilised in Kaduna, and nothing should stop them from peacefully protesting against anti-labour policies
as it informed the public that the givernor has made the peaceful protest inevitable by his refusal to fully submit himself to the conciliation process set up by the Federal Ministry of Labour.
Labour called on the Inspector General of Police and the leaderships of other relevant security agencies to caution their officers and men against betraying their oath of office by engaging in anti-people action
