IMO STATE FIRST LADY DECLARES HER EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME A CONTINUOUS EXERCISE AS OKIGWE WOMEN HOST AUGUST MEETING.

The wife of the governor of Imo State, Her Excellency, Lady Ebere Ihedioha has said that her women empowerment programme would continue after the 2019 August meeting tour stressing that the August meeting is a platform to kick-start the programme.
The first lady stated this at the Okigwe LGA women August meeting, yesterday. The August visitor who began her address with a message of thanks from the governor to the women for their support during the election,  assured them that women empowerment shall be the nitty gritty of her office. She noted that the task of rebuilding Imo state would be meaningless if women were not empowered.
Speaking further, she said that as the first lady of the state, she saw herself as a mother of all irrespective of party affiliations or church denominations. She noted that she would therefore want to see all Imo women empowered with special reference to so many young ladies currently undergoing a special training in ICT, courtesy of her office.
“This August meeting is very special to me. I came to say thank you for your support during the election. I remember promising during our campaign tour here that I will come back here with empowerment when we win. I came with it today to kick-start my empowerment programme. The empowerment today is just a starting point. We will try as much as possible to carry everybody along. My passion is to ensure that every Imo woman is engaged so they can carter for their children. About two weeks ago, we began training for about 200 girls in ICT. In my foundation of over 12 years old, I reach out to indigent women”
Hence she told the women that she would run an open door policy to enable them access her without hindrance. To that effect, she unveiled two telephone lines which she called helplines urging them to contact her through the lines by text messages when the needs arise and promising that their messages would be attended to.
In furtherance of her speech, the first lady quoted the scripture that says “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn” stressing that righteousness shall be her watchword.
The high point of the occasion was the presentation of the empowerment packages to the recipients. They include complete sets of sewing machines and grinding machines and other items. The recipients are Chika umezuruike, Bridget umezuruike, Mercy Uzom, Pauline Udoma,Otuomasirichi Iheme, Cordelia asuzu, Chioma, Esther iruanusi, Chidinma toochukwu, Clementina Ugwiro, Oneanusi Franka, Ezeji Okoronkwo, Nneka Chukwu, Comfort uwaegbute, Louisa Mmuo, Caroline Nwakanma, Victoria Atuegbu and Ruth Ariwoda, amongst others.
Other activities that marked the occasion include match past, cultural dance and food exhibition, all of which involved all the wards in Okigwe LGA.
The first lady was accompanied by the wife of the deputy governor, Ogbuefi Vivian Irona, the wife of the speaker, Imo House of Assembly, Mrs Florence Chiji, the wife of the secretary to the state government, Mrs Ningi Onyeagocha and a host of others in her entourage.
The august meeting gathering under the distinguished chairmanship of Chief, Barr. Charles Babatunde Ezekwem, PDP Chairman, Imo State was graced by notable personalities among whom are Hon Sly Iyke Enwerem, Commissioner for Transport, Hon Nkiru Ibekwe, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon Chief Chidi Ogbunikpa, Member IMHA (Okigwe constituency), Lolo Chidinma Ogbunikpa, Wife of member representing Okigwe State Constituency in IMHA, Hon Adaora Onyechere, SA to the governor on Information and Advocacy,
Others are Hon Chief Paul Uche, Chairman, Interim Management Committee, Okigwe LGA, Mrs Uche Ndidiamaka Jessy, Chairperson Okigwe LGA, Ezinne Uzoma Amaechi, PDP Okigwe Women Leader and traditional rulers and ndi Nze na Ozo.
In his vote of thanks, Hon Chidi Ogbunikpa, member representing Okigwe LGA, thanked the first lady appreciating her gestures to the women of Okigwe LGA. He asked her to extend theirs thanks to the governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha.
