GOVERNOR SAMUEL ORTOM ADVOCATES UPGRADE OF EXERCISE AYEM APKATUMA TO OPERATION.

While presenting his address during the President visit to Benue ,he has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to upgrade exercise “Ayem Akpatuma”  to operation “Ayem Apkatuma” that could be able to arrest and prosecute insurgents terrorising the state under the guise of herdsmen.
He also urged the President to direct the immediate arrest and prosecution of the leaders of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore for issuing and executing threats of attacks  on Benue communities on account of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law.
He said it was appalling that the Miyetti Allah Koutal Hore sociocultural group after claiming responsibility for the Benue killings and making inciting statements, were yet to be arrested by relevant security Agencies.
The Governor Ortom  told the President of the need for the enforcement of ECOWAS protocols on movement of people into the country owing to reports that the Islamic States in West Africa were accomplices in the massacre in Benue.
While noting that ranching was the global best practice of animal husbandry, the Governor appealed to the Federal and State Governments to promote the open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law to end herdsmen and farmers crisis.
He also appealed for the rehabilitation and dualisation of the federal roads in the state, Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu road, Makurdi-Gboko-Katsina Ala road, Gboko-Vandeikya-Obudu road and Makurdi-Agasha-Wukari road all of which were in terrible conditions.
The Governor called on the Federal Government to take over some of its Institutions such as the Benue State University Teaching Hospital Makurdi, Benue State Polytechnic Ugbokolo and College of Education Katsina Ala as a way of reducing the burden on the State Government.
He expressed appreciation to President Buhari for the appointments he had given to some Benue People and appealed for more .
