The Rivers State Government yesterday filed fresh charges against a former leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, for almost killing Hon. Michael Chinda in 2013 with a mace in presence of Former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and his security details.
The State Government in the fresh suit declared that Lloyd is being tried for using the mace to inflict deadly blows on his colleague, which almost cost Michael Chinda his life.
The charges were filed by Director of Public Prosecutions in the state Ministry of Justice, Ibikiri Otorobio, who alleged that Lloyd violated some sections of the State Criminal Code.
Shortly after the attempted murder , the former lawmaker was arrested and detained at the state Police Headquarters along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, and was subsequently arraigned in court for murder, which was later dropped.
The charge sheet showed that some members of the House of Assembly including Hon. Michael Chinda, Hon. Martins Amaewhule, Hon. Victor Ihunwo and Hon. Kelechi Nworgu were among 15 others already penciled down to testify against the chieftain of the APC in the state.
The charge sheet also indicated that the Chief Security Officer to Governor Amaechi, Tony Nwulu allegedly aided Lloyd to inflict deadly bodily harm on Chinda, who was rushed abroad for treatment after the incident.
“That Honourable Chidi Lloyd on or about the 9th Day of July 2013, at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt on the Port Harcourt judicial Division, willfully did unlawfully destroy and damage the Legislative Mace, property of the Rivers State Government,” the charge reads in part
