Two thousand and forty five Permanent Voter Cards and other election materials have been stolen in Akwa Ibom state.
This was made known by the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC National Commissioner in charge of Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Delta states Mustapha Lecky in Uyo, the state capital during an interaction with the media at the end of a monitoring exercise on the display of voters register in the state.
Mustapha said INEC was in partnership with security agencies to track the cards which were stolen from its office in Okobo local government area but hailed the display of voters register in the state as very successful.
INEC national commissioner in charge of Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Delta state , Mustapha Lecky was in the state to monitor the display of voters register which he acknowledged as commendable.
Resident Electoral Commissioner for the state, Mike Igini assured that under his watch INEC would conduct credible polls in the state.
State Commissioner of Police , John Abang said security agencies were ready for the elections.
INEC is however concerned that the timetable for the start of campaigns have not been followed.
