Governor Gabriel of Benue State has justified his role in last week’s Nigerian Governors’ Forum, NGF election, insisting that the chairmanship position of the Forum is not the birthright of any governor.
Governor Suswam who said this during a live phone-in radio program in Makurdi yesterday as part of activities to celebrate the 2013 democracy day, maintained that majority of the governors have endorsed Governor David Jang of Plateau State as the new chairman of the Forum, adding that he had no choice than to queue behind them.
“One cannot insist to be our chairman. People are seeing this as a problem but there is no controversy about it. 18 out of 35 governors have accepted Governor Jang as our chairman. We even held a meeting the next day which I hosted at the Benue lodge in Abuja”, he said.
The Governor who denied influencing his Nasawara State counterpart Governor Tanko Al-Makura to be on the side of Governor Jang, contended that the Forum has always had altercations in the past that has not affected the general polity.
