Minister of State for Education, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has directed the management of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, to stop further payments to the consultant handling library projects over his performance.
The minister gave the directive at the meeting with contractors handling library projects in Federal Unity Colleges in Abuja on tuesday.
He regretted that the slow pace of work of the contractor was negatively affecting the execution of work in some project sites.
Wike stated that the UBEC management can only resume payment to the consultant when there is proof that he has improved on the quality of his service.
He said: “The consultant should understand that he has a duty to the nation. If he improves on his quality of service, then his payment will be resumed”.
Also on tuesday, the Minister of State for Education, Barr. Wike set up a committee to harmonise the positions of principals of Federal Unity Colleges and executives of National Parents Association of Federal Unity Secondary Schools on the running of the schools.
The Minister charged the 13-member committee to address grey areas that have negatively affected the relationship of both groups in the interest of the Federal Unity Colleges.
He said that principals and parents must form a united front to tackle the challenges facing the schools.
In a remark, President of National Parents Association of Federal Unity Secondary Schools, Dr Paul Erie commended the fence mending action of the minister.
