Displaced persons from six communities in Riyom and Barkin Ladi local government councils of Plateau State where the military is operating to rid the area of Fulani mercenaries will soon return to their homes, the Special Task Force, STF, Commander, Major General Henry Ayoola has disclosed.
General Ayoola informed newsmen on friday at the Fulani displaced persons camps while extending relief materials and medicines to them. The Fulani people are taking refuge in two camps.
The Plateau State Government also extended relief materials to the displaced Fulani people.
The STF Commander appealed to all groups in the state to cooperate with the military to ensure that criminal elements are flushed out from the troubled spots.
General Ayoola noted that the distribution of relief materials is targeted at ensuring that the hardship being faced by the people is reduced to the barest minimum.
He explained that the move is not targeted at a particular religion or tribe, saying that the move was aimed at bringing perpetrators of recent attacks to justice.
He also responded to the complaints raised by the people on the need for them to go back and prepare for the Ramadan. According to Ayoola, they are to return as soon as the operation is completed.
Receiving the items on behalf of the victims at the Nomadic Primary School, Dogo in Barkin Ladi council, the Ardo (Fulani Leader), Idris Gidado thanked the STF for the show of love, urging them to carry out the operation with all sense of responsibility and fairness.
At the Nomadic Primary School, Dian in Bachit District of Riyom council as leaders and youths refused to receive the items for fear of being poisoned. But women and children who are almost hit demanded that the items be given to them.
The National Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Saleh Bayari, urged the Fulani to disregard rumours that the STF is conniving with the state government to wipe them out of the state
