NGF crisis: Group lauds Akpabio

A socio-cultural group of young professionals, The New Face of Akwa Ibom, Monday, commended the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, Obong Godswill

Akpabio, for providing the country with its much-needed political stability during the ongoing crisis in the Nigerian Governors Forum.

The group, said that Governor Akpabio has provided President Goodluck Jonathan the necessary inspiration to continue to provide effective leadership for the country that has been badly- fractured politically.

In a statement in Lagos, the General-Secretary of the New Face and veteran journalist, Eyen Obong Umosen, said that at a critical moment of crisis in the original NGF, which has been decimated by internal wrangles, “Governor Akpabiom most admirably rallied like-minded colleagues in the NGF to resolve its internal challenges without necessarily impacting negatively on the polity, which

has already been over-stretched by insurrection sponsored by belligerent politicians.

“Once again, the inability of the governors to resolve a simple matter of elections among themselves without scape-goating the Presidency exposes the forum as no more relevant than a platform for mere ego-tripping and without real significance for the welfare and plight of ordinary Nigerians, which should be the essence of leadership.

“Most governors are obsessed with convoys and motorcades, not with the intimidating army of disillusioned citizens, who pose an even greater danger than Boko Haram and other insurgent groups in the country. Until they wake up to this reality, not many Nigerians are likely to

be interested in who emerges the chairman of the NGF, either Chief Rotimi Amaechi or Group-Capt. Jonah Jang
