Nigeria’s President, Goodluck Jonathan will be the first sitting President to attend the Christian Pilgrimage and he is expected to travel out to Israel next week with a host of state governors.
Jonathan on Saturday flagged off the pilgrimage. The function was performed on his behalf by Senate President David Mark at Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport.
The President regretted that the pilgrimage has lost some of its essence, but noted that it would be necessary for pilgrims to shun commercial activities and face spiritual rejuvenation.
He urged Nigerians to use pilgrimages to seek divine intervention for the development of the country.
